For Taichi, it's his more iconic look. For Daisuke, he's just wearing his Earth clothes.

As for why the two are aroughly the same age, maybe they were each taken from their world at different points in time.

Though here's also the possibility that these aren't the real goggleheads of the previous shows and are instead lookalikes with the same names and digimon who are native to the Xros Wars world. It's not impossible to think this, since there's also a Taichi from the V-Tamer manga who looks and acts almost exactly the same as Taichi from the Adventure anime, but is still a different guy and even has a V-Dramon/Veedramon for a partner. And actually, V-Tamer Taichi was made as a character before Adventure Taichi. ;)

Though, we're all really hoping that these guys are the same characters as those from the first five series and not just alternate universe lookalikes.

Though, something you said before has gotten me thinking.
ironrod prime wrote:like will they use a semi japanese name like takuya or will they use a more american name like marcus
Ever notice that, in the past five dubs, the names they've used have varied from either being kept unchanged or Americanized? Seeing as how the kept names worked in the dub, i gotta wonder why they thought to Americanize the other names in the first place. I mean, they didn't hide the fact tha tthese are indeed Japanese kids who live in real-world neighborhoods Japan (Odaiba, Shinjuku, Shibuya, etc. all are real districts in Tokyo). though, Savers/Data Squad was set in Yokohama instead of Tokyo, but still.

I mean, if they felt the need to Americanize the names, why didn't they do it for everyone? Why keep some names unchanged? Sora, Mimi, Ken, Takato, Kenta, Ai, Takuya, Yoshino, Miki, Megumi, and others are were all unchanged.

And, in at least just the Adventure dub, they tried to reconcile the dub names with the originals by having the first episode claim that the dub first names were just nicknames, and that the originals were their real names. This would be fine... in those so-called real names had actually been spoken at some point in the dub. No one, not even their parents, called them by these "real names". Everyone and anyone who referred to them by name used their dub nicknames as though they were their actual names.

The only character in any Digimon dub whose dub nickname was indeed used as a nickname was Yoshino. Her friends all called her "Yoshi", while her superiors called her "Yoshino" (save for one government official who, for some unknown reason, bizarrely addressed her formally as "Yoshi Fujieda"). And it worked very well that way. Another one of the reasons I praise the Savers dub of Data Squad.

But really, if they're going to Americanize the names in a dub, they should do them all or none at all, so as to keep them consistent.

And what's more, in the cases of Taichi/Tai, Hikari/Kari, Takato, and Ruki/Rika, they did something that's even more weird. They changed their last names from one Japanese last name to a different Japanese name. What was wrong with "Yagami", "Matsuda" and "Makino"? Why the change to "Kamiya", "Matsuki", and "Nonaka"? Same thing happened to the last name of Jianliang/Henry and Shaochung/Suzie, except their Chinese surname of "Li" was changed to the other Chinese surname of "Wong"? What gives? :?

I thought that. But then why not change them all? I mean they kept "Katsuharu" for that one older bully from Frontier, and even I admit that that name's a mouthful.

The nthing is, the names that were changed were still easier to pronounce than his name.

Though, how familiar are you with the Japanese names, btw?
