G1 voice actor John Stephenson passes away at 91

Postby Sabrblade » Sun May 17, 2015 9:57 pm

It is with a heavy heart that we report the passing of legendary voice actor John Stephenson at the age of 91. According to News From Me, he passed away on Friday, May 15, 2015, having suffered from Alzheimer's for quite some time.

Mr. Stephenson held a prolific career in acting beginning in 1948, having partaken in radio, television, and film acting. Among his most notable voice acting roles was Fred's stern boss Mr. Slate on The Flintstones, and his voice was heard in the 1960s Dragnet TV series, on which he would announce the verdicts at the end of each episode.

To Transformers fans, he was best known as the voices of Alpha Trion, Thundercracker, Kup (seasons 3-4 only, not the movie) Windcharger, Huffer, Devcon, and several other smaller roles in the G1 cartoon.

Our prayers and blessings go out the family and loved ones of Mr. Stephenson. He will be missed.

“Critics who treat 'adult' as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.” -- C.S. Lewis
