Taiwan Toys'R'Us exclusive Combiner Wars Deluxe class Groove

Postby Sabrblade » Wed Mar 23, 2016 11:00 pm

Ever since TakaraTomy revealed that the Unite Warriors UW-03 Guardian (Defensor) giftset would have a new Deluxe class mold of the Protectobot Groove, fans outside of Japan hoped that Hasbro would eventually release this new Deluxe Groove mold for the Combiner Wars line. Well, now, it seems that this wish will be... sorta kinda granted in a way. The TFND Facebook has announced that there will be a special promotion at Toys'R'Us stores in Taiwan from March 25th to May 2nd in which the Unite Warriors Groove figure will be offered as an exclusive giveaway to those who purchase 1799 Taiwan Dollars (approximately $55 USD) worth of Transformers products in a single transaction.

An in-packaged image of this single-release of Groove, courtesy of Weibo user TFCLUB变形金刚中国联盟, shows it to be in Combiner Wars Deluxe packaging of the international variety rather than the U.S. packaging. The packaging is multilingual and lacks a packed-in comic book, whereas U.S. Combiner Wars Deluxe class packaging is monolingual and does include a comic book.

This, combined with the packaging's recycling of the old Transformers Legends mobile game artwork for Groove, along with official CG renders of the figure (also courtesy of the TFND Facebook) showing the figure to be virtually identical to the deco of the original Unite Warriors release, suggests that this Taiwanese exclusive was cobbled together by Hasbro Asia, rather than by Hasbro proper, and shouldn't be expected to see release at mass retail in North America or elsewhere.

Still, it's pretty neat that this is happening for Taiwanese Transformers fans, and gives people a new option for acquiring the figure on the secondary market.

“Critics who treat 'adult' as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.” -- C.S. Lewis
