Are there any statistics?

If its about Transformers, the toys, it's fair game.

Are there any statistics?

Postby starry* *night » Thu Dec 01, 2011 3:15 pm

Do the names that everyone is used to applied to totally differing characters in new animation series actually sell more toys?

I have to guess that name recognition is a factor in Hasbro consistently handing us those same names to characters that they may or may not fit
but that's the one place I wish there was a lot more room for creativity and that
they could produce some fantastic new thoughts like some of the early TF names..

(It's probably a given with Optimus) but in regard to secondary characters with no connection of any kind using the old names, teen rookie Energon Ironhide and Prowl as examples...
did they in real numbers sell more toys than a newer use name
like 'Evac' and 'Crumplezone' ?

It's mostly because of legal issues. Hasbro has plenty of names already trademarked/reserved/copyrighted for transformers and rather than go through legal mumbo jumbo about new ones, they can just use the old and reinvent. Same thing goes for alot of comic book stuff.

I've heard that mentioned before.
It's still a disappointment though that they won't keep up the creativity in that regard.

To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. I hadn't thought about every one of those but it's a good list

I knew there were a few and
I was just wondering what a real reason might be for not being more.

It might be hard just to think up new ones after so many have been used
I made up about thirty and haven't been able to come up with a single one any more recently.

I'm only counting TV shows. Now, I don't know about the G1 Fellows, but G2 didn't even have it's own show, and there's no Makeshift in Armada

Why? They are but one form of TF media. They take no real precedence over any other (unless otherwise stated).

Technically, none of the shows gave us those names. it was all the toylines first.

Probably because that's what he's most familiar with
to present all the information from them.
(I couldn't name all the Cybertron mini-con toys even though we own some etc)

But yeah the other (exact name origin ~toy~) info is good too, one of the reasons they count on you right?
