Beast Wars: Transformers... Returns to DVD!

Postby Sabrblade » Wed Feb 09, 2011 12:04 pm

That's right! The Emmy-award winning series Beast Wars: Transformers makes its return to the small screen in the form of brand new DVDs from Shout! Factory. According to TVShowsOnDVD.com, a pair of Twtter comments from Brian Ward of Shout! Factory reveals that Beast Wars is getting a DVD rerelease:
Following the classic '80s "G1" Transformers animated program came the 1996 series Beast Wars: Transformers, using CGI animation produced by Mainframe Entertainment (the folks behind the earlier CGI TV production, ReBoot). Tied to the continuity of the original show, Beast Wars: Transformers ran for 3 seasons and was followed up in 1999 by two seasons of Beast Machines: Transformers.

Shout! Factory has recently released DVDs of G1 Transformers, and after they picked up the rights to ReBoot there were a number of fans hoping that they would pick up the rights to Beast Wars: Transformers as well. The show was released on DVD before, from 2001-2004 by Rhino in the USA and Alliance in Canada. Those are long discontinued and hard to obtain, though, so fans who missed out have been looking for re-releases of the show. Now it appears that Shout! might have indeed negotiated with Hasbro to pick up the DVD rights to this series! A pair of Twitter posts by award-winning Shout! Factory DVD producer Brian Ward give us the hints we need to connect those dots. Here are his tweets from earlier today; the second one from about an hour ago:

*NOTE: See the Tweets attached below.*

Now, the list of new titles might not have included this particular show, of course...it's possible that this one was already "on the books." Either way, it's great to know that this is in the works, and we couldn't wait to pass it along. What about Beast Machines: Transformers from Shout! as well? We honestly can't imagine that Hasbro and Shout! would negotiate for one, and not the other. We'll have to wait and see, though. Stay tuned for updates, as further developments occur! In the meantime, if you want to answer Mr. Ward's request for help, feel free to directly reply to his tweet on Twitter.

“Critics who treat 'adult' as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.” -- C.S. Lewis

Wow. I really hope they get rereleased. And this has now made me aware of ReBoot's official release. Too cool.

OH MAN, OH MAN, OH MAN!

If this is true, then I have to find someone to sell my old BW Rhino DVD's to. The only question now is what kind of extra's will the new DVD's have?

Unless they add in a whole bunch of awesome bonus content, I'll pass. I own the Rhino versions and (even with one episode of season 1 being place out of correct order), they're satisfactory enough.

lol, Glad I'm not the only one who noticed that. I probably will get these and keep my Rhino ones, honestly. Just in case. My Season 1 Disc 1 lagges at one point, so I'd like to have a back up just in case my Rhino set really bites the dust.

Here's hoping for some really great bonus content, though. As much as I loved the interviews with the writers, I really couldn't give less of a crap about Bob Forward's kid's movie that was a special feature on the original set. Don't get me wrong, it was a fun little movie, and good for them that they made it, but it had no place on a Transformers DVD, I'm sorry. So I'm rooting for some cast interviews or commentaries like in the international realeases.

Awesome! I've got the Rhino seasons 2 and 3, but season one is so hard to find... and for season 1 on Amazon, the cheapest seller is selling it for no less than $79.99!
I'll keep the Rhino seasons 2 and 3, but will almost certainly get season 1 to complete the collection.

As for Beast Machines... I could care less. I think of that as a bad dream.
